About

Upstate Creative was founded by Kristina Feliciano, a longtime journalist turned creative consultant.

She began her career as a community reporter at The Orlando Sentinel, writing human interest stories: a profile of the lonely man who ran a store called Pant World and lived in a room at the back of the shop, with his collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; the truck stop where the waitress called everyone honey; the frail widow whose house was being given a new coat of paint by a team of volunteers…

She later moved to NYC, where she worked as an editor, writer, and managing editor for publications like the New York Post (writing punchy headlines on deadline), Entertainment Weekly, Modern Painters, and hard-rock magazine Revolver.

In 2009, she moved from publishing to marketing, eventually joining photographer-representation agency Stockland Martel as creative director. Working closely with the principals, she shaped the agency’s marketing collateral and outreach and coached the photographers on goals and strategy. When the owners retired at the end of 2017, Kristina set off on her own, working independently for clients like Taschen, Girl Culture Films, Hanna Creative Co., and Giant Artists, as well as writing and designing treatments for commercial photographers and directors.

Her work has been published by the British Journal of Photography, Paste, Photo District News, Inked, Gigantic magazine, and Barnard Magazine. She is also an artist who makes work under the name Significant Others.

She’s based in Kingston, New York—the inspiration for Upstate Creative.
